Over the course of the past 17 years, I’ve overseen PR and media relations campaigns for what seems like an endless roster of brands, businesses, products and personalities – in just about every category. What most people don’t realize is that even though PR agencies have relationships with the media, they’re not the sole gatekeepers for the press. Taking a journalist out for drinks or dropping a quick email doesn’t magically produce a major fluff story within days. It takes work – even for us PR peeps.
As owner of Los Angeles-based PR company PublicHaus, I work with large brands looking to dominate their market as well as startups looking to break through. My true passion, however, is educating and empowering the small business owner who doesn’t have thousands of dollars to spend every month on a public relations agency to take control of their own PR and marketing strategy. PR can be expensive, and because we’re not out there placing ads on behalf of our clients, there really are never any guarantees. That’s a hard pill to swallow for smaller businesses or individuals with limited marketing budgets.
Welcome to ThePub, my agency’s official blog, where we’ll have PR and marketing tactics, strategies, advice and thought starters on tap every week from leaders in the PR and marketing business. Our goal is to get you, the small business owner, thinking like a rock star publicist and marketing communicator. I believe that every business, whether it’s a one-man band or a team of 200, has a story to tell; and no one is better equipped to tell that story than you, the owner.
Thanks for dropping by. We’re happy to serve you.
